Canine Good Citizen Program (CGC) @ Bow chika Wow Town

We are pleased to host Jenni Coes as our CGC Instructor!

The CGC concept applies to both ends of the leash and all CGC classes include training for the owner on responsible dog ownership.   The CGC is a six week program at $175 per dog.  Classes meet once per week.

The CGC program prepares your dog to take the ten step test offered by the AKC, which presents a training curriculum stressing responsible pet ownership and basic good manners for dogs including:

  • Accepting a Friendly Stranger
  • Sitting Politely for Petting
  • Appearance and Grooming
  • Out for a Walk (Walking on a Loose Leash)
  • Walking Through a Crowd
  • Sit and Down on Command/
  • Staying in Place
  • Coming When Called
  • Reaction to Another Dog
  • Reaction to Distractions
  • Supervised Separation

CGC is also the first step you need to take if you are thinking of doing any therapy dog work.

AKC Trick Dog Training – Novice Level @ Bow chika Wow Town
Jul 15 @ 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm

Is your pup bored? Do your friends think you’re boring?  Let’s fix that!  In this six week course, you’ll learn how to break any trick down into teachable steps. Now you can keep your pup from being bored and you’ll have tricks to show off!    A total of 10 tricks are required to earn the AKC Novice Trick Dog Title.  Food and toys may be used as training aids at only the novice level.

Some tricks covered include:

  • Balance beam – walk on low board a few inches off floor
  • Bark on cue – “Speak”
  • Army Crawl –  dog on belly, crawls at least 5 feet
  • Fetch it and give – ball, toy, etc- bring to handler, release
  • Find it –  find treat hidden under cup
  • Get your ______  (Leash, brush, toy)
  • Get in – gets in a box
  • Get on – gets on low platform or step – 4 paws
  • Hand signals – down, sit, or come
  • High five – Hold 3 seconds
  • Jump – thru a low hoop or over a low bar
  • Kennel up – go in crate, stay in until released
  • Kiss – point to cheek
  • Paws up – 2 front paws on low stool or step
  • Push-ups – sit, down, sit, down, sit, down
  • Shake hands
  • Spin in circle
  • Touch it – hand or target stick
  • Tunnel – agility tunnel or child’s tunnel
  • Other:  Handler’s choice:_______________________
  • If you have a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certificate or title on record at AKC, you may count the CGC as 5 of the required tricks for the NOVICE TRICK DOG TITLE!

National Dog Day @ Bow chika Wow Town
Aug 26 @ 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Join us to celebrate National Dog Day with some free play time at our Indoor Dog Park!   All dogs coming in to play must show valid proof of vaccinations including Rabies, DHPP and Bordetella.   In addition, pups over 7 months MUST be spayed/neutered.   We offer a climate controlled safe play environment supervised by our trained doggie daycare staff.

 

BcWT reserves the right to limit capacity and/or playtime to ensure a safe environment for all.

Walk This Way! Loose Leash Walking Workshop @ Bow chika Wow Town
Sep 15 @ 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm

For this FREE workshop, we’ll begin inside with an overview of proper loose leash walking techniques, as well as properly fitted gear. From there, we’ll head out on a pack walk utilizing the skills just learned.

This class is ideal for dogs who could benefit from better manners while walking on a leash. This class is not intended for dogs that are reactive and lunge and bark at other people and dogs on walks.

We will not allow flexi or extended leashes to be used in the workshop. Please plan on bringing a treat pouch as well as some yummy soft and chewy treats.

East Greenwich Animal Protection League Annual Hound Hike @ The Carousel at Goddard State Park

Pet First Aid & CPR Certification @ Bow chika Wow Town

This 3 hour comprehensive pet first aid and certification class will provide you with the skills to care for your pet in an emergency.    At the end of class you will be tested on your knowledge to earn your CPR Certification.   If you pass the test, you will receive a certificate verifying your completion of the course and the topics you have learned.   Your certification is good for 2 years and also counts as continuing education credits through these professional organizations:

  • International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants
  • National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors
  • Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers

Doggie Dash 2018 @ Canonicus Camp and Conference Center

We are proud to be a supporting sponsor of this 1st of it’s kind event in Rhode Island.  Proceeds from this event will help benefit local animal shelters.

BoldrDash Events are well known as the event friends love to come to together.  What about your Best Friend?  Doggie Dash is the first of it’s kind in Rhode Island and you and your bestest pooch do not want to miss it.  This course will be 1/4 – 1 mile of trail running for you and your buddy with 8-10 Dog centered obstacles along the way.  This event is all about the animals and we can’t wait to show them the best time ever!

All Dogs must be leashed at all time – No animals can be left alone in a vehicle on Canonicus property for any reason.  Retractable leashes are not allowed on the course.
