Nosework is easily the hottest new sport around, and it is easy to see why! Inspired by professional detection dogs, its fun for humans, too. Dogs love to participate, and it is good for building confidence and focus in dogs that have issues like shyness, reactivity, aggression, or a simple lack of confidence. Any dog can participate; from puppies to very old or retired dogs. In a matter of weeks, you will see your dog confidently ignoring distractions and focusing on the target scent.
Nosework is easy to learn, can be done anywhere, and does not require any specialized equipment. You will be brought into your dog’s ‘world of scent’ as you learn to read their behavioral changes, and they’ll develop confidence as they are rewarded for following odor to its source.
Who is this activity suited for:
- All breeds (not just purebreds!)
- All sizes of dogs
- Fearful dogs
- Reactive dogs
- All ages from puppies to geriatric dogs
- Dogs with physical restrictions including blind and deaf dogs
- Any handler from total novice to experienced dog handler
All dogs are worked one at a time. Those not working are crated. No obedience is required. Our intro class starts with getting your dog excited about using his nose to seek out a favorite toy or treat. Rewards are hidden in one of several boxes, expanding the game to entire room, and then onto other interior spaces. Pet parents will also learn the basic concepts is searching for odor, proper use of equipment, and how to make and place hides.
This is a 6 week class meeting every Tuesday at 6pm. Cost to participate is $160 for the entire 6 weeks.

This is our second course offered in our nosework program. This course continues on where Intro to Nosework left off. Into to Nosework is a pre-requisite for this class as our searches are progressive and we build upon each dog’s progress from previous weeks.
In this class we will introduce food and toy distractions and work on acclimating to exterior searches on lead. Our goals will be having the dogs maintain the energy, stamina and mental focus during their searches as well having them find the odor regardless of the environments around them.
