We are pleased to host Jenni Coes as our CGC Instructor!
The CGC concept applies to both ends of the leash and all CGC classes include training for the owner on responsible dog ownership. The CGC is a six week program at $175 per dog. Classes meet once per week.
The CGC program prepares your dog to take the ten step test offered by the AKC, which presents a training curriculum stressing responsible pet ownership and basic good manners for dogs including:
- Accepting a Friendly Stranger
- Sitting Politely for Petting
- Appearance and Grooming
- Out for a Walk (Walking on a Loose Leash)
- Walking Through a Crowd
- Sit and Down on Command/
- Staying in Place
- Coming When Called
- Reaction to Another Dog
- Reaction to Distractions
- Supervised Separation
CGC is also the first step you need to take if you are thinking of doing any therapy dog work.

The American Cancer Society Bark For Life is a fundraising event honoring the life-long contributions of our Canine Caregivers. It presents an opportunity for people to be empowered through their canine companion partnerships and to contribute to cancer cures through the mission of the American Cancer Society.
Registration fees:
1 Human: $10.00
1 Human with 1 dog: $15.00
2 Humans with 1 dog: $20.00
2 Humans with 2 dogs: $25.00
Family registration (up to 4 Humans and 2 dogs): $40.00
Registration will begin at 11:30 AM
All dogs MUST be vaccinated and show proof for the following:
Distemper
Rabies and Bordatella (Kennel Cough)
All dogs must be over 6 months old and spayed or neutered.
If you would like to take the CGC test without taking the class, we have a VERY LIMITED number of spots available for the AKC CGC test.
The Canine Good Citizen test helps promote responsible behavior for dog owners, as well as teach proper training for dogs so they are well-mannered and easy-going around other dogs and people.
Before taking the Canine Good Citizen test, owners will sign the Responsible Dog Owners Pledge. After signing the Responsible Dog Owners Pledge, owners and their dogs are ready to take the CGC Test. Items on the Canine Good Citizen Test include:
Test 1: Accepting a friendly stranger
Test 2: Sitting politely for petting
Test 3: Appearance and grooming
Test 4: Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead)
Test 5: Walking through a crowd
Test 6: Sit and down on command and Staying in place
Test 7: Coming when called
Test 8: Reaction to another dog
Test 9: Reaction to distraction
Test 10: Supervised separation
All tests must be performed on leash. For collars, dogs should wear well-fitting buckle or slip collars made of leather, fabric, or chain. Special training collars such as pinch collars, head halters, and electronic collars are not permitted in the CGC test.
Any dog that eliminates during testing must be marked failed. The only exception to this rule is that elimination is allowable in test Item 10, but only when test Item 10 is held outdoors.
Any dog that growls, snaps, bites, attacks, or attempts to attack a person or another dog is not a good citizen and must be dismissed from the test.

The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy is an exciting new program designed to get dog owners and their puppies off to a good start. This 6 week program will cover the following components to make your puppy a STAR!

AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy training classes teach the foundation for basic functional skills such as sit, down and come and provides the opportunity to socialize with other puppies and people. A positive reinforcement approach is used to teach young puppies the basics of skills.
When puppies are older, or near the end of a 6-weeks class, they will be able to perform S.T.A.R. behaviors more independently. The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program is an incentive program for loving dog owners who have taken the time to take their puppies through a basic training class.

June is National Pet Preparedness Month and if you’ve ever had a dog go missing, you know how traumatic it can be. Sadly, a lost dog rarely recognizes his owner’s voice. When they’re in survival mode, they are fight or flight and most just take off.
We invite you to join us as we welcome Sheilah Graham to speak about how to prevent your dog from getting lost and what to do if the unthinkable happens.
When Sheilah isn’t working her day job as a staffer at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, she’s moonlighting as a volunteer “pet detective” and rescuer. Sheilah has over eight years of experience tracking down lost pups. She doesn’t get paid for this work and she’s tallied a sterling record-solving more than 150 cases, including a dog that was lost for two years!!

Is your pup bored? Do your friends think you’re boring? Let’s fix that! In this six week course, you’ll learn how to break any trick down into teachable steps. Now you can keep your pup from being bored and you’ll have tricks to show off! A total of 10 tricks are required to earn the AKC Novice Trick Dog Title. Food and toys may be used as training aids at only the novice level.
Some tricks covered include:
- Balance beam – walk on low board a few inches off floor
- Bark on cue – “Speak”
- Army Crawl – dog on belly, crawls at least 5 feet
- Fetch it and give – ball, toy, etc- bring to handler, release
- Find it – find treat hidden under cup
- Get your ______ (Leash, brush, toy)
- Get in – gets in a box
- Get on – gets on low platform or step – 4 paws
- Hand signals – down, sit, or come
- High five – Hold 3 seconds
- Jump – thru a low hoop or over a low bar
- Kennel up – go in crate, stay in until released
- Kiss – point to cheek
- Paws up – 2 front paws on low stool or step
- Push-ups – sit, down, sit, down, sit, down
- Shake hands
- Spin in circle
- Touch it – hand or target stick
- Tunnel – agility tunnel or child’s tunnel

If you have a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certificate or title on record at AKC, you may count the CGC as 5 of the required tricks for the NOVICE TRICK DOG TITLE!
The AKC Trick Dog Novice is a 6 week program at $175 per dog. Classes meet once per week. Payment in full is due at the time of registration. All pups must be up to date on vaccines in accordance with The Town’s policy. The test will be held on the last session of class. Space is limited to 8 pups – reserve NOW to secure your spot.

All graduates receive a personalized diploma PLUS a certificate for one full day of daycare with us (a $30 value!)
Join us to celebrate National Dog Day with some free play time at our Indoor Dog Park! All dogs coming in to play must 
show valid proof of vaccinations including Rabies, DHPP and Bordetella. In addition, pups over 7 months MUST be spayed/neutered. We offer a climate controlled safe play environment supervised by our trained doggie daycare staff.
