Do you have a particular dog of interest? Don’t wait until the event to get the adoption process started. Submit your SOS application at sosarl.org/aa at least three days in advance to start the pre-screening process and save time at the event.

Please plan to bring your entire family to the event. If you have a resident dog(s) and he/she’s up to date on all shots, please bring him/her for a Meet’n’Greet and someone to handle him/her outside, as he/she can’t come inside until the vet check has been competed and a private meeting is scheduled. if you aren’t pre-screened, please bring all vetting records and history for your resident dog(s). Respectful children are always welcome when supervised by a legal guardian.

Public dogs are welcomed into the event space
for Meet’n’Greets by appointment only.

Canine Good Citizen Program (CGC) @ Bow chika Wow Town

We are pleased to host Jenni Coes as our CGC Instructor!

The CGC concept applies to both ends of the leash and all CGC classes include training for the owner on responsible dog ownership.   The CGC is a six week program at $175 per dog.  Classes meet once per week.

The CGC program prepares your dog to take the ten step test offered by the AKC, which presents a training curriculum stressing responsible pet ownership and basic good manners for dogs including:

  • Accepting a Friendly Stranger
  • Sitting Politely for Petting
  • Appearance and Grooming
  • Out for a Walk (Walking on a Loose Leash)
  • Walking Through a Crowd
  • Sit and Down on Command/
  • Staying in Place
  • Coming When Called
  • Reaction to Another Dog
  • Reaction to Distractions
  • Supervised Separation

CGC is also the first step you need to take if you are thinking of doing any therapy dog work.

Pet CPR and First Aid Certification class @ Bow chika Wow Town

Become certified in canine and feline CPR and First Aid.   The instructors from Pet Emergency Education are nationally recognized for providing pet CPR, first aid and emergency response training.    In addition, their Pet CPR+ Certification Program is rapidly becoming the premiere pet CPR training program for animal and veterinary professionals as well as animal lovers everywhere!

*This class will certify the participant in Canine and Feline CPR and First Aid*

 

The skills and topics covered in this class include:

  • Safety techniques when working with sick and/or injured animals
  • How to restrain and transport sick and/or injured animals
  • Taking vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, CRT)
  • Importance of the first aid kit
  • How to manage common medical emergencies such as severe wounds, poisoning, burns, choking, etc.
  • Performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation on dogs and cats (PetCPR+ Certification)Class is $69.95 per person and includes a copy of the Manual, 2 CPR certification wallet cards, a certificate and a 2 yr subscription to our online resource center.**This class awards 3 CEU’s to veterinary professionals and 4.5 CEU’s to CCPDT dog trainers**

Bark For Life of Kent County RI @ Bow chika Wow Town

The American Cancer Society Bark For Life is a fundraising event honoring the life-long contributions of our Canine Caregivers. It presents an opportunity for people to be empowered through their canine companion partnerships and to contribute to cancer cures through the mission of the American Cancer Society.

 

 

Registration fees:

1 Human: $10.00

1 Human with 1 dog: $15.00

2 Humans with 1 dog: $20.00

2 Humans with 2 dogs: $25.00

Family registration (up to 4 Humans and 2 dogs): $40.00

Registration will begin at 11:30 AM

All dogs MUST be vaccinated and show proof for the following:

Distemper

Rabies and Bordatella (Kennel Cough)

All dogs must be over 6 months old and spayed or neutered.

Canine Good Citizen Test Date
Apr 22 @ 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

If you would like to take the CGC test without taking the class, we have a VERY LIMITED number of spots available for the AKC CGC test.

The Canine Good Citizen test helps promote responsible behavior for dog owners, as well as teach proper training for dogs so they are well-mannered and easy-going around other dogs and people.

Before taking the Canine Good Citizen test, owners will sign the Responsible Dog Owners Pledge. After signing the Responsible Dog Owners Pledge, owners and their dogs are ready to take the CGC Test. Items on the Canine Good Citizen Test include:

 

Test 1: Accepting a friendly stranger
Test 2: Sitting politely for petting
Test 3: Appearance and grooming
Test 4: Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead)
Test 5: Walking through a crowd
Test 6: Sit and down on command and Staying in place
Test 7: Coming when called
Test 8: Reaction to another dog
Test 9: Reaction to distraction
Test 10: Supervised separation

All tests must be performed on leash. For collars, dogs should wear well-fitting buckle or slip collars made of leather, fabric, or chain. Special training collars such as pinch collars, head halters, and electronic collars are not permitted in the CGC test.

Any dog that eliminates during testing must be marked failed. The only exception to this rule is that elimination is allowable in test Item 10, but only when test Item 10 is held outdoors.

Any dog that growls, snaps, bites, attacks, or attempts to attack a person or another dog is not a good citizen and must be dismissed from the test.
