Pet First Aid & CPR Certification @ Bow chika Wow Town
Oct 13 @ 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm

This 3 hour comprehensive pet first aid and certification class will provide you with the skills to care for your pet in an emergency.    At the end of class you will be tested on your knowledge to earn your CPR Certification.   If you pass the test, you will receive a certificate verifying your completion of the course and the topics you have learned.   Your certification is good for 2 years and also counts as continuing education credits through these professional organizations:

  • International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants
  • National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors
  • Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers

Class Outline:

Introduction
  • The role of first aid with your pet
  • Safety concerns for the provider
  • Preparing a pet first aid kit
Monitoring your pet
  • Understanding pet vital signs and how to measure them
  • Recognizing normal & abnormal behaviors
Illness
  • Vomiting and diarrhea
  • Bloat
  • Loss of appetite
  • Lethargy
  • Weakness or collapse
  • Seizures
  • Cold or heat exposure
  • Fever
  • Itchiness/scratching
Cardiovascular Emergencies
  • Recognizing the signs of cardiopulmonary arrest
  • Cat and dog CPR
Injuries
  • Bleeding
  • Temporary wound care, infection prevention
  • Lameness
  • Suspected fracture or spinal injury
  • Burn wounds
  • Hit by car, fall from height, animal attack
  • Shock
  • Poisonings and envenomations
Allergic Reactions
  • Insect stings
  • Vaccine reactions
  • General allergies
  • Anaphylaxis
Respiratory Emergencies
  • Choking
  • Near-drowning
  • Breathing problems/respiratory distress
  • Rescue breathing

 

Class is expected to run three hours.   Cost for the class is $74.95 + tax and includes a student e-book available as a .pdf download.   Payment must be made at the time of registration.   Seats are limited.

Howl-i-day Manners @ Bow chika Wow Town

The holidays can be a confusing time for your dog! With new people, new activities, and new things just laying around for the taking the holidays are a test of self control for our dogs. We’re here to help with a 1.5-hour introduction to some of what you and your dog should know to make it through these stressful times together.
 
There will be 4 working spots (with your dog) and 5 observation spots (without your dog) available for this event. Working spot applicants must be pre-screened.
 
Pre-registration is required as spots are limited for this event.
